Results unveiled by the communications regulator have said that there has been several instances of unlawful hacking of phone systems in the first part of 2011.

The Commission for Communications Regulation (Comreg) has released a warning to all businesses and organisations after there’s been a rise in the amount of people who believe their telephone exchanges could have been illicitly hacked.

The statutory body, which is responsible for the regulation of the electronic communications sector including telecommunications, radiocommunications and broadcasting transmitting and the postal sector, investigated 22 problems from the first six months of this year and of these issues, 21 were deemed valid.

Even though this is a fall in the quantity of problems from 25 in 2010, the news follows the shocking phone hacking scandal at the News of the World where a lot of editorial staff supposedly hacked the telephone systems of lost children’s parents and dead soldier’s relatives.
